At Q Psychology, we are proudly celebrating Wear It Purple Day. Wear It Purple Day provides an opportunity to stand alongside LGBTQIA+SB young people, reminding them they deserve to feel safe, supported and proud of who they are. Wear It Purple Day began as a grassroots movement led by young people and LGBTQIA+SB allies. Today, it has grown to a national movement supporting safer and more inclusive environments all across Australia. Visit https://www.wearitpurple.org/ for more information.
How can you celebrate Wear It Purple day? You could wear or decorate your space in purple, you could host a fundraising event or share stories of courage, pride and allyship. We encourage you to support Wear It Purple in whatever way you feel comfortable.
Colours of Courage
It can be challenging to be courageous. Courage is a skill that can be fostered over time. With enough practice and support, anyone can learn to be courageous. This year's theme is Colours of Courage, reflecting the queer community’s diversity of identities, experiences and stories. Courage can come in all forms and colors of the rainbow.
We recognise the courage needed to live authentically as a member of the LGBTQI+SB community. We also acknowledge the importance of courage in advocating as an ally. Sometimes courage means speaking up when something does not feel right. Sometimes it can look like asking for support or engaging with a friend or professional. Sometimes it is recognising that a situation does not feel safe. Courage could mean supporting someone who is experiencing discrimination or setting a boundary of your own.
At Q Psychology, we believe that courage can be fostered in a way that is safe, respectful and individual to each person. We recognise that every person's experience of identity, relationships, family, community and belonging is different, and that therapy should provide a space where those experiences can be explored without judgement, a supported space to foster courage. We are proudly going to Wear It Purple on Friday the 28th of August and we encourage you to join us!
If you think psychological support could help you, contact Q Psychology to discuss making an appointment with one of our practitioners. Visit https://www.qpsychology.com.au/ for support to be courageous.
